Teacher Unions Demand Immediate Payment of CPDA and DSA After CAGD Delay
Teacher unions demand immediate payment of CPDA and DSA, unions challenge CAGD payroll delay, call on Minister to honour 2024 collective agreement, urge swift action to avoid labour unrest.
The major teacher unions; GNAT, NAGRAT and PRETAG, have expressed strong displeasure after the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) announced a delay in the payment of two teacher allowances: the Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) and the Digital Support Allowance (DSA).
In a joint letter to the Minister of Education, the unions say the CAGD press release revealing a technical hitch during the final payroll run contradicts the 2024 collective agreement, which stipulates payment of these allowances in November. The unions have called on the Minister to ensure the agreed payments are honoured without further delay.
The unions urged the Ministries of Education and Finance, the Ghana Education Service, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the CAGD to resolve the matter quickly to avoid unrest in the labour front. They said prompt action is needed to protect teachers’ welfare and uphold the terms of the collective agreement.
The unions added they hope the issue will be addressed immediately so it does not disrupt education services.
