  • The Resilient Melody: A Farmer's Challenge and a Musician's Triumph - Ending part of this story.

As the days turned into weeks, the journey of healing my middle finger brought unexpected challenges. One evening, while attending church, the pianist was absent, and I was called upon to fill in. Playing the piano that night was one of the most excruciating experiences of my life. Every press of a key sent sharp pain through my injured finger, but I pushed through, knowing the service depended on me. It felt like an uphill battle, yet my passion for music gave me the strength to endure.

As a guitarist, however, I knew I had to be patient. The intricacies of strumming and fretting required full mobility, and it was clear I wasn’t ready. My choir coordinator noticed my struggle and generously gave me a balm to ease the pain. Along with other treatments and a carefully wrapped bandage on my hand, I began to see signs of improvement. Though it was a slow and sometimes frustrating process, each small step forward gave me hope.

Before the healing process was complete, countless thoughts plagued my mind. Would I ever be able to use my finger to play instruments again? The uncertainty weighed heavily on me, and there were moments when tears streamed down my face as I wrestled with the fear of losing my ability to express myself through music. It was a deeply emotional time, but I clung to hope, trusting that healing would come.

This struggle became a profound part of my journey. Today, as I write this, I can joyfully say my finger has healed completely. Looking back, I’m amazed at how quickly recovery came, considering the severity of the injury. That season of pain and perseverance taught me the value of resilience and the incredible support of those around me. It reminded me that challenges, no matter how daunting, are temporary, and with determination and faith, they can be overcome.

  • The Resilient Melody: A Farmer's Challenge and a Musician's Triumph

It was a quiet evening, and I found myself tending to my small farm, a cherished extension of my studies in Animal Health and Production. Among the animals, my rambunctious ram had been showing signs of distress, and I knew it needed immediate attention. Determined to care for it, I carefully approached, but in the process of restraining it, an unexpected twist unfolded—literally. My left middle finger bent backward in a way it wasn’t supposed to. Although the bone wasn’t broken, the pain and the sight of my twisted finger left me shaken.

That year was one of the toughest in my life. As a musicologist, my hands are more than tools—they are the instruments through which I express my passion. The thought of not being able to play the guitar or piano, even temporarily, was daunting. Yet, in that moment, I realized the incredible resilience of the human spirit and body. My backyard farm, once a place of solace, had become the scene of a challenge I had to overcome—not just physically but mentally.

Each day that followed became a lesson in perseverance. While I nursed my injured hand, I found creative ways to stay connected to music. That experience taught me the value of patience and adaptation, both as a farmer and a musician. Little did I know, the resilience I built in that season would shape the person I am today. • The golden rays of the January morning sun pierced through the window as Kehinde Ayoade adjusted his tie, ready for his first day back as the music teacher at Living Treasure Model School. The school compound buzzed with life—students reconnecting with friends, parents dropping off their children, and teachers exchanging warm greetings. Kehinde’s heart swelled with anticipation as the principal’s welcoming address highlighted the school’s dedication to creativity, with a special nod to the music department's impact. This term promised to be yet another opportunity to inspire young minds through the power of music.

Entering the music room for his first class, Kehinde was greeted by eager students and the polished scent of a freshly cleaned space. On the board, he had written, “Music is the universal language of mankind,” setting the tone for the term. He started with an icebreaker, asking students to share their favorite songs and instruments, sparking excitement and curiosity. Kehinde outlined the term’s goals: the juniors would learn basic theory and recorder tunes, while seniors would explore harmony and ensemble work. By the time he demonstrated a simple melody on the piano, the students were captivated, ready to embark on their musical journey.

As the day progressed, Kehinde moved between classes, encouraging students to explore their potential. Some struggled with basic notes, while others surprised him with hidden talents on the keyboard. Patiently guiding each one, he celebrated their small victories, knowing they were stepping stones to greater achievements. By the end of the day, Kehinde felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Walking out of the school gates, he hummed a tune, already envisioning the symphony of growth and discovery that awaited in the term ahead.
