• POLLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND WATER-BODIES WITH POOR SANITATION SYSTEM IN GHANA

Ghana, a country in West Africa, has a population of 30 million people. Lack of clean, pure drinking water and sanitation system has been affecting many lives and properties.

Each year, poor people living in both rural and urban communities suffer, when there is a heavy down pour of rains, causing flood and diseases, such as cholera and malaria across poor communities.

Again, bad attitude of young school-going age people, engaged in illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as ‘galamsey’, pollute our water-bodies, thereby killing fishes and other aquatic animals. This is experienced because the people involved lack proper sanitation, effective drainage systems, so that the gutters are choked due to poor sanitation system and the lifestyle of some of the people living in the community.

These people also lack education or just refuse to pay heed to environmental Experts’ advice. Throwing garbage in the drains has been their habit for a greater part of their existence and destroying farms lands has also become their stock in trade; erroneously believing that they are making good livelihood out of that exploitation.

Environmental Sanitation is important for all; helping to maintain good health and increase life-span among people. However, it is especially important for children and the youth in communities, worldwide.

It might interest you to know that children around the world, over 800 of them; under the age of five, die every day from preventable diarrhea-related diseases caused by lack of access to pure drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

This is the effect of the degradation of our environment by these people.

    Description:
    ''Clean'' and ''Sanitation''.

“Clean”, means that soil and food are visibly removed from surfaces.

''Sanitation'' When items are “sanitized” it means that those surfaces have a reduction of pathogens. There still may be microorganisms present, but they are at safe levels.

Generally, surfaces of equipment, food preparation tables and utensils that come into direct contact with food should be washed, sanitized and air-dried.

Cleaning and environmental sanitation are important for the following reasons:-

Firstly, to minimize food wastage due to food contamination.

Secondly, getting drinking clean and pure water in Ghana is hard to come by, in most communities. Or better still, is not safe to drink. A government's role in providing sanitation is to set policy and regulate the sector to ensure a clean and healthy living environment for its people. At the same time, individuals and households bear responsibility for their own well-being by adopting improved sanitation and hygiene practices.

Lastly, all effort must be made to discourage all forms of illegal mining activities in our communities. By so doing, we are restoring back to society God-given clean and healthy environment.

  • LIFE INSURANCE POLICY PLAN

What is Insurance? What are the benefits of insurance? Have you ever considered insurance as a protection policy plan for yourself and your family? Well, at the end of this write-up you will be convinced that insurance is not a myth or an abhorrence to man.

The Japanese are the most insured in the world; while
South Africa is the most insured in Africa. Unfortunately, Ghana is no where found on the list.

Insurance is a contract between you (or a business) and an insurance company to help protect you and your loved ones from financial loss due to an unexpected event, like an accident, illness, natural disaster, or other unexpected circumstances.

Again, Insurance is a way to manage your risk. When you buy insurance, you purchase protection against unexpected financial losses. The insurance company pays you or someone you choose if something bad happens to you. If you have no insurance and an accident happens, you may be responsible for all related costs.

However, Insurance and Assurance are two commonly misused terms in insurance policy documents. While both terms describe the policy coverage, they have different meanings.

While insurance provides monetary compensation for a covered event, assurance provides financial support in a covered situation.

    Benefits of insurance

    These include the following:-

    Financial security

    Life insurance

    Tax benefits

    Risk sharing.

There are quite a number of insurance companies currently operating in Ghana.

The following are the top Life insurance companies in Ghana, today. These are:-

    Entreprise Insurance

    Star Insurance

    SIC

    Prudential Life Insurance

Prudential Life Insurance is number 4 out of 24 registered Life Insurance companies in Ghana.

Prudential Life Insurance was first called Prudential Assurance Company and was established in the UK in the year, 1848. The company paid compensation to the TITANIC accident Cruise Ship Victims in the year 1912.

It was registered in Ghana in 2014.

Prudential Life Insurance currently has 24 million clients, insured across the world and 500,000 more customers across Africa.

Prudential Life insurance helps to take the financial risk out of life’s big decisions. The company creates long-term value for its customers, its shareholders and the communities it serves.

The company's Individual Insurance Plans include:-

Ultimate Hospital cash back (either for individual or family).

    Educational Support Plan

Another insurance policy plan is Ultimate Premier Farewell (Death) and Ultimate Classic Farewell

Last is the Prudent Life Plan, which provides cover till age, seventy years.

In conclusion, you will agree with me that insurance is rather an important part of our lifetime for security and protection and not a myth or something to be scared of.

  • THE SAVED BUT LOST AFRICA
The Africa continent is like the Israel in the Bible. They have lost their true identity as a chosen people of God. They love the things of “this present world more than the God who created them and are like Demas who loved this present world”. (2 Timothy 4:10). The Africa that was once washed, saved, sanctified and justified before God is now a breeding ground of corrupt people. (1 Corinthians 6:11). Africa how can you escape the judgment of God if you neglect the salvation our Lord Jesus Christ? Africa is blessed with fertile land with all natural resources but now the land of Africa is cursed because of shedding of innocent blood for sacrifices and other abominable acts seen in Africa toady. Because of our sins, we are now slaves in our homeland. African leaders are now “sales executives” of our natural resources God gave us. They sold everything for their families’ benefits thereby making the rich richer and poor poorer.

“O foolish “Africa”, who has bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh”? (Galatians 3:1, 3).

The prodigal Africa must return to the Lord in genuine repentance. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land”. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Unless we seek the Lord, Africa will remain as it’s. “Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near”. (Isaiah 55:6)

Finally, Africa must develop love for the truth (word of God) which will equip Africa to have a purposeful life.

The word of God teaches four (4) things: (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

He teaches you; God shows you the path on which you should walk.
He rebukes you; God shows when you’re off the path.
He corrects you; God shows you how you can get back on the path.
He trains you; God shows you how can stay on the path.
Rise up, Rise up o Africa. The Lord is calling you back to where you belong.

In my next article I shall be looking at The prostitute and Homosexual Africa
