🏃‍♀Wilma Rudolph's story

Wilma Rudolph was born into a poor family in Tennessee.

At the age of four she became seriously ill with double pneumonia and art fever. Because of these she got polio. She used to wear a brace to support her legs.

The doctor had even said that she would not be able to walk for the rest of her life.

But Wilma's mother encouraged her and said that with God's ability, hard work and dedication, she could do whatever she wanted.

Hearing this, Wilma said that she wants to become the fastest runner in the world.

At the age of nine, despite doctors' advice, Wilma took off her brace and took her first step, despite doctors saying she would never walk.

At the age of 13, she took part in her first running competition and finished last. After that she kept taking part in second, third, fourth race competitions and always came in last place.

She kept trying until the day came when she came first.
